Doesnt it anger you when people pretend they have eating disorders?!?

I get so angry about this, I lost a friend to an eating disorder, and I battled through it too, since then I've had so much help and a lot happier -

but it really kills me to see kids who actually wakeup one day and say "Oh! I think I might START anorexia today". Honestly, that is the most horrible thing I could hear and the fact that someone would actually WANT to "start" something like that, or the disease is just a really "fun" diet.
I definitely blame the media, actresses and the internet for making kids think that it's a glamorous life style, when really it only causes kidney problems, heart failure, breathing difficulty, loss of calcium, dehydration.. death.. While it breaks my heart to see this, it also pisses me off because it's not even about losing weight, it's more mental than phsyical... You don't realise you have an eating disorder at all, well at least I didn't until people started to want to help me..
Doesnt anyone else get extremely upset and annoyed by this?

And looking through questions here, I notice people ask "AM I FAT?" or "DO I NEED TO LOOSE WEIGHT?"
Other people reply with "No you're at a healthy weight" and some say "Oh gosh, you need to lose a fair bit!" - How is it up to someone to decide that??! People's ideas of healthy can be very distorted and mix up other peoples minds too.
I swear the next question I see that says "am i too fat?" or "my tummy is really big" i'm going to snap!

Yes! It's not a healthy thing to do or to pretend doing. One of my best friends actually has an eating disorder and another one of my friends... well, ex-friend, said that she was anorexic and told pretty much everyone, and the next day she'd be shoveling down a plate of fries.
I agree that it is more mental than physical.

Well, some people really do have it and they can't help it. Even therapies doesn't help. I think and feel fat but other people think I am tiny. I feel guilty after I eat but can't help it that my tummy feel bad when I am too hungry. I am learning better now about eating and self image. But still get the guilty feeling after eating. `I think most teenager have this problems. If they didn't outgrew it later on, oops. It's not going to be fun.

i agree witchu..ive nvr had this problem cuz my self image , weight-wise at least is not distorted....i'm thick wit a big booty and a ittybitty waist lol ..i dunoo im petite and short but curvy ya know i think thickness is good personally...guys seem 2 like it now....so yea thats wut healthy is 2 me...

volunteer..pass flyers ..write an essay on this and try to have it published.. if it can change one person's life ... that's success right there... and the media does have such a big impact.. it's sad glad you are aware of this though

You are sensitized to that issue and understandably so.
Kids today are dangerously naive. Most have never had to deal with nature and have seen nothing but nearly magical devices through which the world is made to dance for them.
This leaves them vulnerable to manipulation by anyone who can tell the simplest lie. There just isn't time to learn what is real and what is not. There is too much to know about the toys they have the culture they are in.
If we don't protect them from information overload, we will soon have to protect ourselves from them.
