Geodon and deadly side effects?

Okay people, I am starting to get a bit freaked out by this drug. I was just given a script to get it filled by my doc, since I am super sensative to alot of the mood stabilizing drugs. Apparently, this drug has very little side effects, although, as I am reading, there is a chance that your heart can just up and stop beating no matter how healthy you are, even if you never have had any side effects from a heard disorder or suffer from one. Okay, a bit scary. Anyone currently taking this med or has taken it in the past??? Please fill me in and give me your 2 cents. If there are other drugs out there that I may not be as sensative to, maybe I might need to forgo this one.

FYI: I am currently on Seroquel and Celexa. I have been on Depakote and Lamictal in the past as well as Risperdal, all three of which made me sick, very sick. Like I said, I am super sensative.

I am assuming that you are reading the leaflet given either by your Dr. or Pharmacist. I refer to them as scare sheets. It is good to get educated on the medication you are putting in your body however, almost every medication can have serious if not fatal (POSSIBLE) side effects even Tylenol but people take them like they are candy. You have every right to be concerned. I am no longer on Geodon but took it about two years ago for quite some time. I took the lowest dose though but I can't remember what that was since I am sensitive to medications. I myself have heart palpitations that I take medication for and in my case it did not effect anything. Talk to your Dr. if you are that scared and he can either reassure you and you can feel safe about taking it or you can come up with something to take that will help as an alternative that he can prescribe for you that causes you less worry. Good luck~

I heard of one girl who was on such and I do not know what happened to her... some people react differently to different things.

My grandpal takes geodon, and seems to do a lot better on it then then he did Risperdal.

Other uses have posted their experiences here:

I took Geodon for 2 years (80 mg 2x a day) and didn't have any side effects.

Good luck and take care of you!

yeah, geodon does have heart side effects such as arrhythmia. I have an arrhythmia and i took it for 3 years without any major heart complications. You can develop a fatal arrhythmia on this drug but it is unlikely. Talk with your doc if you're worried. good luck.

The heart problems you refer to that are due to Geodon is considered a rare side effect. My doc put me on Geodon because I'd gained so much weight on Zyprexa. I DID have arrythmia from it, but the problem immediately went away when I stopped the Geodon. All we had to do is increase the Seroquel by 125mg.
