How many eating disorders are there?

I know there are two kinds (bulimiea, anorexia) And I'm just wondering, are there any more? Can you list them all and tell me what they do? I'm very curious cuz I'm 10 and I heard some people my age already have them. Also could you tell me what they exactly are? Cuz I really want to know but have no idea.

Hi there, my name is Toni, I am 22 years old and I had Bulimia when I was a teenager for 4 years, eating disorders are very very serious and are not to be taken lightly. Read some of the info on this website,

http://www.myeatingdisorder.com

It's got everything you could want to know on there. My good friend died last year before her 24 birthday because when she was a young teen she was anorexic, and she had soo many healthy problems that were caused from it, she died of conjestive heart failure in the hospital. It was aweful, she never was able to get married or have kids or anything, if you know someone with an eating disorder, get them help. And like I said, read up on it, know what your talking about before going to your friends at school, get all the facts right, it will make such a difference... Good luck to you.

ok first. dont get into them ok?

the three main types of eating disorders are:
1. anorexia-starving yourself.not eating.
2. bulimia- when you eat a lot and then just throw it all up after.
3. obesity- constant eating..
from personal experiance with bulimia, dont ever do it. k? you have a long life to live dont waste years sitting next to a toilet throwing up.

There are several forms of disordered eating. Anorexia, bulimia, and compulsive overeating are the three I'm familiar with. There are several other behaviors, such as 'bingeing and restricting' that fall under the other categories.

Ignore the person who said obesity was an eating disorder. Obesity is often a symptom of compulsive overeating but it is not a disorder in and of itself. Most people who are obese don't have an eating disorder, they just don't get enough exercise and/or eat a healthy diet.

I've had problems with disordered eating since I was 13. (Ten years now). I started out starving myself (anorexia) and couldn't handle it for very long - I was weak and tired all the time. I progressed to restricting and bingeing (eating nothing all day and then eating a lot at night) and progressed from there to bulimia. Bulimia is not only throwing up, as some people think, but it actually encompasses a variety of behaviors. I was throwing up, taking laxatives, taking diet pills, and trying to exercise off everything that I ate. Bulimia is basically bingeing and then using unhealthy means to get rid of the food eaten. My mother has had an eating disorder for most of her life as well, and she has what is called exercise bulimia. She jogs for hours every day and overexercises in an attempt to burn off everything that she has eaten. It has caused her numerous health problems but she refuses to get treatment.

Anyway, my bulimia was getting more and more out of control while I was in high school. Throwing up and using laxatives frequently is really damaging to one's body. I started having problems because of the damage I was doing to my body.

Compulsive overeating is often caused by the desire to have a buffer between oneself and society. It's very common among girls who have been raped or molested. They want to gain weight so that they won't be viewed as a sexual being. It is what it sounds like - eating to soothe one's emotions. I progressed to this behavior eventually.

Long story short, I finally got help. I've been in treatment for two years and am at a healthy weight now. I still struggle with the urge to purge sometimes but I've been able to manage it for the most part. If you are asking these questions because you think you might have an eating disorder - please seek help immediately. The longer you let it go the worse it will become and it can destroy years of, it not the rest of, your life.
