Missed my period for 3 months in a row..?

I'm a virgin, so I'm not pregnant.

What are other reasons that could be a cause of this?

I'm 16. I've heard eating disorders can cause it [I do have a diagnosed eating disorder], but I thought you had to be severly underweight to lose it? Someone please help! It's worrying me!

first things first, try to fix the eating disorder.

It could be because of your eating disorder....Your body is shutting down. Hon seek help before its too late.

I had polycystic ovaries (or how ever you spell it). i only got a period every three months. It could be anything. Maybe a hormonal problem. go and see your doc, they will be able to advise you best :) good luck!!

well its going to be that then. your body needs food hon, stop punishing yourself and enjoy food and life

you should go and see your doctor who will probably send you to a "female doctor". are you working out extremely? sometimes athletes will lose their periods. but just the same go see your doctor! a period is a natural process and should occur because the body is cleansing itself. the doctor might put you on birth control to help regulate as i know a few of my friends are, they are roughly your age.

You are correct that eating disorders can cause this. It can happen even before you are severely underweight. It's also likely that you don't quite recognize how underweight you really are.

Sorry, but this may all be part of the eating disorder. I hope you are getting some good treatment for it. If so, tell your doc or therapist about your periods.

now.. don't you panic... by the age of 19 your periods should be regulated if not then you need to see a doctor... as you said you are 16, it could be stress that is causing it or maybe a change in your diet.. if you miss another period i think that you need to go and see your General Practitioner... if it used to be regular but now it is not now then you need to see your GP... it is likely they will give you medication which will generate some hormones of which you are producing too little and on the whole it will balance out your hormones... a great way to control your period is the contraceptive patch as it balances your hormones and yet you are in control.. you can put it anywhere on your body except breasts/genitals and it is very small and discrete... it has the same functions as the pill but you needn't remember to take it... ones you put it on the first day after your period you need to keep it on for 4 wks and then take if off for a week when you are due your period... you will bleed in this week and then the cycle begins again at the end of your period you need a new patch and so on and so fourth... the patch is mainly used as a contraceptive but also to regulate hormones... consult with your doctor asap and they will give you a far more professional advice then anyone on YA... i wish you all the best and Good Luck

normally with a eating disorder you dont get the right amount of nutrition your body needs to operate properly, whcih results in many of your organs shutting down.

for women in this case you will notice that you dont have periods because your body isnt fundtioning in the way it should be and means that you cant have children. if you keep up this type of eating pattern then you might damage your chances of ever having children.
its just away of your body telling you that your body isnt fit enough to carry a child if you were to ever want one.
but dont start crying and thinking this is the end for you to ever having children... if you start eating proper and get to a normal weight for your age and height then you will start to have periods again, which means that you can have children.

but remember you cant leave getting better too long because it will damage your chances of ever having kids.

the only other reason is hormone imbalance
