My girlfriend is depressed and Bipolar! Need Help!!!?

She just got diagnosed with being Bipolar. I love her so much but I hear this disorder makes for a tough relationship in the long run. I have bought her a plane ticket to send her back home what should I do if she gets better!?? Will she ever truly be happy?

" ... depressed and Bipolar...." Depression is one phase of Bipolar .

I have a relative with that , & the relationships are a problem. It's a matter of whether you can take the bad times , when she's out of it. It's not easy, and very wearing.Seems as though the manic phase is harder , because it's more divorced from reality ( from what I've seen - don't know if it applies to everyone ) Medication helps, but it is a matter of constant adjustment, both of what , and how much. There is no set recipe , and sometimes it fails. If the two of you can talk about it, especially with some humor, there is some hope. Good Luck.

You may never KNOW that . Part of the difficuly . Again , best wishes , and good luck. Report It

no, i need help.

It is possible to be in a relationship with someone who is bipolar. My husband's friend's wife is bipolar and as long as she is on her medications she is fine. There are risks involved but she can be happy.

See bipolar disorder at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris on page 2 (read the whole page). Sufferers can lead quite normal lives, using treatments to combat depression, and mood stabilisers.

She will get better, IF she wants to get better. Yes, the disorder can put a strain on your relationship, but you can work through it. Let her know that you are there to support her. Knowing that someone supports you through your illness helps a lot. If she's willing to let you, go to doctor's appointments with her. Research the illness on the internet. Being educated about it is another way to help her.

Many people live with bipolar disorder every day. As long as they are keeping up with their treatments, they can live a normal life.

It's not fun to feel mentally unstable. It adds a lot of stress and confusion on their partners.

You love her and want whats best for her. Right now she needs to understand what's going on with her, and get help. Maybe when she gets on the right meds and therapy things will be different. Communication is also very important. It can work, but it will take a lot of patience on your part.
Good luck!
