Hay fever?

I am starting to have the allergy I have had before - i still dont know what it is. I am in the country where doctors are not particulary interested in digging into the problem - my doctor just gave me eye and nose drops which didnt change anyhting, if not made it worse. I have no time to look for another one. I j麓have bought regular vitamins to boost up my immunie system. Any other remedies? I would appreciate all te answers, as it feels like hell...

Any decent anti-histamines will work, but you have to take one every day, even if you feel a bit better as they build up a resistance. Also, not very nice but does work too, you can put some Vaseline up your nostrils, this stops the pollen making your nose itch as it doesn't get through. Not much for the eyes though, but to reduce the puffiness, keep 2 teaspoons in the fridge an put over your eyes when bad, it takes the swelling away.

piriton at the chemists is a good allergy tablet my daughter takes it for the nut allergy xx

I always use Zirtek, (it contains cetirizine hydrochloride). It's a good allergy relief tablet that works for hayfever.
Hope this helps you out.

Common allergy syptoms - sneezy, runny nose, itchy eyes etc are caused by your body over producing a protein called histamine. It is an immune response to alien things in your body, the histamine tracks down the allergen and disposes of it. This is true whether you are allergic to pollen, cats or peanuts.

This is why allergy remedies do not have to be specific, anything that stops the histamine production will stop the symptoms, doesn't matter what is causing the allergy.
Vitamins unfortunately are unlikely to help: your immune system is what's causing the reaction, so if anything it's too good! They are good for infections, not so much for allergies.

Cetirizine and Loretadine are both good remedies available from the pharmacy, they stop your body making as much histamine.
Cold tea bags, slices of cucumber are delightful on itchy eyes. Weraing glasses or sunglasses can help minimise the allergen getting in your eyes.
The runny nose is best dealt with by drugs! See above.

You have my sympathies, I'm a long time allergy victim, and I know it's horrid.

Have you tried taking anti-histamines?? They're easily available, in supermarkets etc, and are often branded as hayfever tablets, but will fix other allergies as well. The most common anti-histamines are cetirizine hydrochloride, loratadine, and chlorphenamine maleate, all of which can be found in supermarkets. You might have to play around and try different types, to find one that suits you.

As you haven't given many details, you don't say what symptoms you have, I don't know if it's hayfever. Mine gives me a runny icky nose, itchy eyes and a cough, but different people have different symptoms. You may need to keep using the eye drops along with the tablets to get anywhere. Also, hayfever only tends to be bad in places with a high pollen count - this should be read out with the weather in the morning - so keep an eye out. If you can, stay away from places with lots of flowers/trees, you can normally figure out what it is you're allergic to.

The other option is to go and find out what you're sensitive to, the doctor will expose you to different allergens and see which ones affect you most. But if it's hayfever they're not likely to do that, and will most likely just give you anti-histamines anyway!

Best of luck.
