Hay fever, anyone else have it? |
Hi All, I've never had hay fever until I came to Cambridgeshire and I live by a rape seed oil field and my allergies havegone crazy. I went to the doctor and he told me to buy some allergy tablets but he would't prescribe me any, anyway, so I bought some allegy tablets but they don't work that well. I can't move yet because we're renting so we've got nowhere else to go so I'm stuck by that field but can anyone reccomend some good hay fever tablets? plus my eyes are itchy because of my allergies and i'm asthmatic as well so i'm taking an inhaler for that but thankfully my asthma is OK it's just my eyes itch and i'm sneezing! hey i suffer really bad with hay fever so i know how ya feel, most doctors wont prescribe hay fever tabs because they are cheaper to buy, things like zirtex and clarytin have generic brands called cetrizine and loratadine which if you buy the generic form are cheap usually around 拢3 for 30 tabs! not sure which ones you bought but with tabs for hey fever there isn't a best one, it works differently for each person so one year ceterizine could work and the next year they don't so unfortunately its a trial and error process its finding which one is right for you! for your eyes, providing you don't wear lenses you can by pollonese which again is a generic of opticrom this is also usually around 拢3, if your not in to taking tabs there is a new organic product around called hay max its a balm that you put just inside your nostril and it stops the pollen going inside you! not sure how good it is as i haven't tried it yet but it is about 拢6! hope this information helps you hun good luck xx Have you tried looking at alternate methods of relief. Essential oils burning or inhaling breathe easy. Good luck Oh yeah - avoid the meds I don't know what meds you have available in the UK. I used to use Actifed, which was pseudoephedrine. I've also used Chlortrimeton, which is also available in the US. If you go to boots, you can get something in a little bottle, but i forget its name, and its a powder, which you dab up your nose, and its fantastic for allergies. Its around seven pounds but it lasts ages.Piriton is probably one of the the best over the counter antihistimines too,but its different for different people.I cant understand why your doctor wouldnt prescribe you something a bit stronger if you are suffering so badly.I always get a prescription from the doctors for my hayfever, which begins to get really bad at this time of year-rape seed is really bad for it,we're surrounded by it too.I suggest you shut all doors and windows when it gets to late tea time, as thats when its at its worst, and also, place damp tea towls on your windowsills to catch floating pollen. Its really hard to get away from it,but you can control it with the right stuff. Ive had hay fever pretty much all my life and find tablets dont work half as well as eye drops and nasal spray, i use beconase nasal spray and optrex eye drops but go into Boots and check whats best for you. They will be expensive but you cant put a price on the relief! im the same, just that i also get rashs and itchy skin, but im in the same position (i can't find any either) Hayfever can cause all sorts of symptoms - and how they present is as individual as the patient. Therefore over the counter remedies or conventional drugs are not the answer as they are not individual and have nasty side effects. |
