How can i prevent hay fever before it starts? |
i get hay fever around may/june and it is really really bad, just imagine the very worst cold you ever had and multiply it by 100 and you may get some idea of how bad it is. ireally dont want to go through it again so is there anything i can take to prevent it. i have tried every anti histamine and they dont help at all. thanks. Go to your doctor and get a prescription for a steroidal nasal spray, such as Nasonex or Beconase AQ. You start it a week before hayfever season. It works MUCH better than antihistamines. Urgh, hay fever is evil, used to have it when I was younger. I've got one suggestion, haven't personally tried it but I've heard that if you eat the honey that the bees in your area produce, then it somehow makes you resistant to the allergens in your area. Talk to your doctor before you do this, but I find if I take a 24-hour dose of Claritin or Alavert (they are the same drug) before bed, my allergies don't bother me during the day. Also, you should make sure to keep your home free of allergens so you get a good rest from them everyday. Try vacuuming more frequently in the months you are prone to hay fever, and invest in a HEPA air filter. Start taking your Zyrtec before your allergies start. I have the same problam!! i cant see most of the time because my eyes are puffy and watery!! Start taking your anti-histamine tablets about April time. There was a doctor on TV saying that this was the best way to beat hay fever. x Try eating honey now. But it has to be local honey. Go to your nearest health food shop. its usually about 拢3 but worth it. Its based on homeopathy - like for like. Eat honey made from bees that use plants from your area. I've been doing it for ages and it really helps. Any old honey won't have the same effects as local. Hope it helps. Regular antihistamins won't cure you, just mask the symptoms. If you can, find a homeopathic doctor who will work with you to find a cure. If this is not a choice for you, go to the health food store and look for homeopathic remedies for your particular type of allergies. THey can be single type remedies or combination type remedies. ( tinctures with many types of homeopathic elements together). Try one type at a time for a week or so and see if you see an improvement. if not, try another kind .It's best to work with a homeopath. I find this type of treatment the safest with no side effects and quite helpful over time. Go to your doc and see if you can be tested for allergies. You will be prescribed a corticosteroid such as Nasalcrom or Rhinocort to spray 2x/day before your allergies begin to manifest. It takes 2-3 weeks for these nasal sprays to take full effect, so don't wait until you are miserable before starting. Good luck! I feel for you . . . I go through the same thing . . . year round! piriton are a good broad-spectrum antihistimine and will probably at least get you a night sleep but TELFAST are the best antihistimine on the market and are only available on prescription - which is good cos they'd cost 拢45 a month. also make sure you take off your clothes and shoes as soon as you enter the house and wash them so that you don't have excess pollen in your house being moved around constantly. |
