How to avoid getting hay fever this spring?

How to avoid getting hay fever this spring?

I can not tell you how to avoid hay fever completely but I can tell you what will help. You probably know what week and month your hay fever symptoms typically begin. Next year start using Nasal Crom one month prior to this date. Use one squirt in each nostril every 6 hrs or 4 times daily as best possible. This will cause the mast cells in your nose to be less sensitive and will greatly slow the development of hay fever and allergy symptoms. Nasal Crom used to be a prescription drug but is now available OTC for 15. for a month supply. Make sure and start early because it does not work well if your nose is already very congested.

Second tip - irrigate your nose with saline to wash out all the pollen that causes the allergies. You can do this with simple saline sprays or buy a nasal irrigator like a Hydropulse. irrigate AM & PM and after being outside when the pollen is heavy. Do not irrigate soon after using the Nasal Crom or you are wasting the Nasal Crom.

Third tip - if necessary is take an antihistamine regularly - before the congestion starts. The new highly advertised Astelin works very well but cheap OTC antihistamines work well for some people. If this is not enough then add a nasal corticosteroid spray like Flonase or Nasonex.

If all this does not really help, then you probably need allergy shots.

good luck
