Apperently i suffer from hay fever and by eyes are extremly red and sore...the dr gave me eye drops...?

but they arent helping much.... does anyone have any tips on how to get the swelling down or stop the itching/tearing?

thanks in advance

Sound like you're going to have to take an antihistamine. Try a non-drowsy like Claritin. And keep in mind it can take 3-4 days to reach its full effectiveness.

the best thing to do would be to avoid the allergen, that is not always possible, go back to your doctor and tell him that the medication was not effective-most doctors use a step-up approach to treat allergic conjunctivitis and I am sure there are other eyedrops on the market that might help you.

Soak your eyes with a warm water cloth.. should at least help with the itching if anything.
And for sure get rid of the thing that triggers it. If it's pets, sorry.. in order to make it stop you will have to remove the pet from your home.

for a temporary measure, you can lay with an ice-pack on your eyes, or they make things that look like sleep-masks, but they're made of gel that you can put in the freezer. hell, even cold cucumber slices would probably help relieve the redness and puffiness.

maybe try getting stronger anti-allergens? allegra / zyrtec / clarinex?

Yes, I think it can start at all ages. Mine started when I was 6, and was terrible each year until I was 16/17 and then became much milder. Yet this year I have been suffering quite badly again.
