I recently had someone in my family diagnosed with this. It appears that it is something that one can live with quite normally. I guess what I am looking for, is someone who may have this, or know someone who has this to reassure me that it is not a life threatening or life altering disease. hashimotos is a disease , however it is not ife threatening, it is a autoammunine disease that affects your thyroid, as long as your under constant medical care to check your levels of your thyroid than you will be fine, you will be on a throid stimualnt for the rest of yor life, which is very important to take, your throid controls alot of major life functions, so take the medicne and have your blood levels checked regularly, and they will be fine, the type of dr to see is a endrocrinologist, ,best of luck and dont worry they will be fine Hashimoto's disease a type of thyroid problem.
