I have Hashimoto's Disease.?

And I realised that I've forgotten almost everything that I've learned in school.I'm greatly saddened by this.Recently I found out that I've forgotten how to memorise. Can anyone help me in this?My grades are slipping.I'm really scared.

I wish that I could help more, but I'm sort of in the same boat but from other illnesses, a number of them affecting short-term memory and causing lack of mental clarity or bouts of mental confusion. I used to have a phenomenal memory, but now it's becoming difficult for me.

So, you see, I do understand. You might have to start learning in a different way. Something that always helped me was to write out important points. As you write and reread these, it can make more of an impression on you. A teacher told me that, when I'm learning something new, I should picture a little groove forming in my mind since that is part of the learning process. For some reason, that image comforted me, knowing that I was making a little pathway of new knowledge; the more I repeated this bit of knowledge, the deeper the impression would be~at least in my "mind's eye".

Sometimes, if you read certain things aloud to yourself, even in a quiet voice, it can help you retain the information.

Memory is something that has to be practiced and exercised. When you're not doing schoolwork, try testing your memory by recalling favorite songs and movies, sports statistics (if you like that), lyrics of songs, and all sorts of bits and pieces of knowledge. One trick I use is that, when I went shopping that day, I lie in bed and try to recall all of the items I bought that day; keep in mind what you spent and see if you can come up with the items to match that. It sounds silly, but it's a good mental exercise.

You might have to read and reread that much more, but if you keep at it, you might find yourself retaining more information.

Carry a little notebook and a pen so that you can jot down anything you want to look up or to make notes to yourself.

Also, talk to your teachers and to your parents if you are having difficulties. I used to try to hide problems and work on them myself. That was many years before I discovered that I also have ADHD, which has gone untreated throughout my life.

Keeping the mind active is important, even when you might feel too tired and ill to do it. Believe me, I've been there! I AM there now! Yahoo! Answers is helping me so much. You'll know when you're too tired to do something or the process of thinking is too difficult. Be patient with yourself, and don't feel guilty or bad about asking for help. If you don't catch information the first time, ask for it again, either during or after class. I used to let myself get very lost, but thankfully, my parents were always very understanding.

If you know someone who can help you, not exactly tutoring but helping you study, that would be good, too.

There are people all around you who are going to understand. I really wish you the best in dealing with this.

That must be terrible.

get a thyroid hormone replacement.
