Hashimoto's Thyroiditis?

My doctor recently told me that i have this disease. I'm only 14yrs old. I did a little research, and it said that it affect mostly adults. Why do i have? My doctor plan on giving me a medication today(are there any side affects to this). I'm currently freaking out. Any advice?

My son has had it since an early age. He hates the thought of being tested all the time and buying the hormones he needs. It took him awhile but he is now learning to accept it. They are right, if you catch it early, it is better for you.
I knew one guy who his started functioning right again cause they caught it early. So there is hope.
At least it is a disease you can live with,...

Only side effects were he gained his weight back to normal and he was tired for awhile till his body adjusted.

YOu should not! Trust your doctor. While it is true that it affects adults most of the time, take note not all of the time, so you are just one of those few times. Anyways, Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease affecting your thyroid gland. It is unfortunate that your body just form antibodies against your thyroid and potentially could destroy it and make it unfunctional thereby causing medical problems.
The earlier you take the medications, the better. Accept it as a fact of life and go on with your life. Will power is healing too. Dont panic or be afraid, it just lowers your resistance and could make your condition worse. Relax and be optimistic. Pray for God's healing too.
