Could I Be Pregnant?

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease a year and a half ago, and I've only had a total of about 4 periods since then. My boyfriend and I are usually careful with having safe sex, except once we didn't use a condom. I haven't had a period since March because of the thyroid problem, and when we did not use a condom, it was early this month, and he didn't climax inside of me, as far as I know of. I haven't had any symptoms of pregnency, like morning sickness or anything. But just in case, could I get pregnent? Or does not having a regulated mestrual cycle limit me from doing so? Or because of my thyroid problem, does it lower my fertility rate?

There is always a slight possibility that you could be pregnant, but in your case it is highly unlikely.

However, if you are unsure, purchase a HPT, and test yourself with your first morning urine. I understand that most women find HPTs rather expensive - but you dont need to necessarily buy a 'top brand' one. If you go to your local $2 shop or look on the internet, they have HPTs from about 20 cents each - just because they are cheap, it doesnt mean that they wont work! All brands of HPTs work just as well as the next (no matter what price or brand), as they are all searching for the same hormone - HcG.

If you take a HPT and it turns out to be negative, but you still have some concerns, see your doctor, who may be able to undertake a blood test (which is about 1% more accurate than a HPT - so in my opinion - not worth the hassle).

Most couples TTC take an average of 6 months to concieve, even if their reproductive tracks are in fully working order, and they have been having intercourse on their ovulation date every single month. You only ovulate for approx. 24 hours each 28 day cycle, so the chance of anyone getting pregnant after having sex (especially without the male ejaculating) is minimized again, if you had intercourse on any random day.

you might want to talk to your doctor about this. and take a home pregnancy test if you are really worried about it. they (the test) are 99.5% correct.

It's hard to tell especially that you are diagnosed with that illness. The best thing for you to do is to go to your physician and get a pregnancy exam. ^^

If you had unprotected sex, there is a high chance you are pregnant. Just because he didn't climax, it does not mean that sperm could not get to your egg. Even with your thyroid problem, you are not unfertile.

You most likly are not pregnant, but use condon s or don t do it, get on the Pill or use somthing,
Does nt sound like your ready for a baby, and if you have unprotected sex you will end up with one, and Babys need a good home,

Yes, the disorder will affect your fertility. But it's not dependable enough to rely on as a form of birth control- women with Hashimoto's do get pregnant. You didn't say if you your taking any type of throid replacement, but I assume you aren't. If you did get pregnant, you would need very careful monitoring to keep both you and the developing baby healthy. So it would be important for you to detect a pregnancy as soon as possible. In your case, I suggest you purchase a home pregnancy test kit and use it to see. You can retest again in a week just to be sure- unless it shows positive. In that case, you want to see the doctor as soon as you possibly can. If it's negative and remains negative, chalk it up to a scare and just be very careful in the future. You probably ought to speak with the doctor about some form of hormonal birth control as well. It would still be a good idea to use a condom, but in your case the hormonal regulation might be helpful otherwise.
