Treadmill workout?

I have hashimoto's disease (thyroid disease) and its next to impossible for me to loose weight, so last week I went and purchased a treadmill, i have been working out on it faithfully everyday...I do 3 20 minute workouts, 1 in the morning, 1 at noon and 1 in the evening...I walk at 3 mph with a 6% incline...do you think this is a good start, or should i do the hour work in the am and just drop the other 2 workouts...i am overweight but I dont feel stressed when I work out, I also use 8 pound hand weights while im walking. Any suggestions?

I think you're doing fine, but you might have better results if you go ahead and just do the hour workout in the morning. Instead of walking at 3 mph ... you should switch it up a bit. Start at 2 - 2.5 for about 3-5 minutes, just to warm up. Then for 10 minutes, walk at 4 mph, then come back down to 3 miles per hour for about 5 minutes and then jump it back up to 4 again. The fluctuation in speed usually kicks your body into high gear and helps you burn more without over-heating. Always make sure you get about a 5 minute cool down, too -- walking at 2 - 2.5 before you get off. It's worked wonders for me!

I think you're off to a good start. Research has shown that breaking up your workout is JUST AS effective as doing it all at once. I think doing smaller workouts is a great idea...it saves time and walking for an hour straight gets boring. I would suggest going to fitnessmagazine.com and checking out their treadmil workouts..they have a bunch of calorie burning workouts that you do on a treadmil. good luck and keep up the good work!
