but did you do anything different to lose it?

Sorry about the diagnosis but on the other hand you are in good and supportive company- Hashimoto's (an autoimmune disease where the body attacks the thyroid) is the most common cause for Hypothyroidism. A lot of people who start on Synthroid or Armor Thyroid do so with the hopes that the weight they have been fighting will finally melt away and for some people they react really well to the medication and can at least start losing the pounds. For others, the fight can be more difficult and prolonged. A lot of factors go into a question like this. First of all, it can take a while to really get your thyroid levels back on track- you may have months of adjusting dosages. Too little and even too much thyroid hormone can keep your metabolism running slow. On the plus side, you seem pretty active and that will help a ton. The best thing for you to do is stay active, watch what you eat and stay in communication with your doctor. It's a long fight to beat Hashimoto's and many people stay on the medication for the rest of their lives. If I were going to caution you on anything it is to not place too much hope in the medication to resolve any weight issues overnight. People who do and then don't see results right away can become frustrated and feel like giving up. I am including a link to a fantastic Thyroid website that has great tips on dealing with Hashimoto's and the weight issues that go with it.

GOOD LUCK!

I have hashimotos too.I was very overweight about 196 when I was diagnosed and at the end of that year I had lost about 40 pounds.I dont think your over weight by much anyway so stop obsessing.

You need treatment for Hashimoto's thyroiditis NOW, not in January! Go back to your doctor immediately and demand a prescription.

When a person that has thyroid problems, such as low thyroid hormone, and are put on thyroid medication, the medication does not help you lose weight.

What I does is it levels the playing field so that a person who used to be a slow metabolizer and therefore may have had stubborn weight loss issues can now burn calories that a "typical person" burns calories at. You still need to eat right, exercise, keep stress down, etc., which I'm sure you are well aware of.

Hashimoto's disease is more of a rapid autoimmune disorder, so this is something that you should be addressing now. While medication is part of a treatment regimen, it should not be the only thing that you do.

I have some more information on this on my blog listed below.

You will be put on Synthroid it sounds like. The dosing also have to be experimented as we all respond to it differently. Actually - losing weight is sort of a battle for all hypothyroids and if you have the kind from hashimotos - well - it is not the best combo - but can be very managable. You have to wait and see how you respond to Synthroid. Taking Thyroid hormone alone will not make you lose weight. At least - the people I know of had to work on losing the weight on the medication. In other words, a healthy lifestyle, good diet, plenty of sleep, some supplements can aide you in the process and of course exercise. What matters is how you feel and at what stage of this condition you are at. If weight loss is your only worry - consider yourself lucky. Also recommending you on educating yourself on Hashimotos - lots of info is avail. on the net, in books etc. I hope you will be well. Good luck to you!
