Should a resident with mrsa in urine be allowed to attend day program in a room with ten other residents? |
I work with the mentally handicapped at a day program I have a resident with mrsa in his urine he is incontinentand uses liners. He is in a room with ten other residents that are also incontinent and do not practice universal precautions due to their mental handicap. The staff is provided with gloves and hand sanitizer as precaution. All ten consumers receive all their ADLs in this room including their lunch. There is no sink with soap in this room for handwashing. The incontinent residents all get changed on one mat and all soiled liners get placed in one trash bin that get emptied twice a day along with the rest of the rooms through out the facility. Is this safe for the staff and the rest of the residents attending day program for this one resident being there? I worked at a nursing home once.We had a resident that had mrsa and he constantly went up and down the halls in his wheel chair. We questioned it and was told if it wasn't airborne then it was all right. From what you said about the situation there is terrible. no no no it is not safe. Can you report this? if not find someone that can.For your safety as well. MRSA patients/residents should be isolated in the meantime perhaps it might help to have handy a hand sanitizer after handling the resident since there's no sink with soap. |
