Treating a hand injury?

Hey, I seem to have run into a little problem. The door from my closet fell while I was lying in my bed and it fell right on my hand with the edges. My hand is cut relatively badly but not deep enough for stitches and I bandaged it, but it continues to bleed pretty bad, and I have to change the bandaids ever 10 minutes or so. What do I do to stop the bleeding? And how can I possibly check for any broken bones without moving my hand, since I currently cant.

see a doctor

YOU NEED MEDICAL ATTENTION FAST!

Go get stitches! The depth of the cut is not always the factor used to determine whether you need them or not. In areas that flex and move alot, they may be needed so you don't rip open the would every time you move your fingers, and if it continues to bleed after ten minutes, it is likely more serious then you first thought.

Any loss of sensation/movement should be seen by a medical professional as soon as possible to prevent permanent injury.

Best treatment for bleeding is to apply direct pressure and elevate your arm. Add more (but don't remove the first layer) bandages as necessary. If the bleeding continues, you can apply a pressure point... at which point you should seriously consider getting medical attention.

There is a product on the market that's seen much use with the military and wilderness agencies called "QuikClot" (by Z-Medica). It's a granular product that can be poured directly on wounds to stop bleeding.

There is no surefire way to check for broken bones short of an x-ray. If it's to the point where you're concerned about broken bones, then you should visit your doctor.

You need to be seen in an Emergency room, and may need Antibiotics, if this becomes infected a hand infection is a very dangerious thing with long term consequences. Wrap the finger with cause, hold pressure and get a ride to the emergency room NOW!!
