Swelling even after 3 months since injection line was used on hand?

My mother aged 66 yrs, had a hospitalization due to fractures/injuries 3 months back. The injection line was put through the right hand(on the back side of the palm of hand), where to find the vein they poked her at least 20 times. Later when it started swelling they used the line thru the neck.
They said the swelling in hand would go away after sometime, but it has still not gone away. My mother is saying that she fells little lesser sensation in the affected region. Is it normal for such swellings to stay this long? Will it ever go away at all? Someting I can apply on it? Anything else I need to know or have to do?

well it may be bad circulation of blood in that area she needs to elevate it. go to your doctor and have her take some medication

Hello!
I am sorry that you have to ask this question. It will go away. It is most likely what they call a hematoma that is where they puncture through both sides of the vein. Also your mother being in her sixties tends to heal just a bit slower than if she was younger. Also understand that how fast a person heals is an individual thing. If your mother doesn't heal very fast to begin with than, that would answer your question. But either way if you say your mother has a lump where they stuck her then that is scar tissue and can take some time, but three months is starting to get to be a little excessive. It wouldn't hurt when she goes to one of her follow up visits to ask about her hand. Good luck! and once again I am sorry you had to ask this question!

get a 2nd opinion. I'm not a Dr. but it sounds unusual. Good luck to your Mum. try ice compresses in the meantime.

To answer this question correctly, more information would need to be given, such as what kind of line was it? Did she have any surgeries near or at that location of the inflammation and what caused her to be in the hospital in the first place. Her hand could stay swollen for a while but if you are really worried about it I would tell you to go to the doctor, infection could be setting in, which definitely would not be good. Also, is it red or tender? And was anything put into the line, (medications)?
