Will your fingers get mangled if your hand gets in a garbage disposer??

I saw this in the "Heroes" pilot- girl puts hand in garbage disposer, fingers come out mangled...

well, the company that makes the disposer has sued NBC
for suggesting that serious injuries will result "in the event consumers were to accidentally insert their hand into one."

Well... what's supposed to happen- does the hand get mangled? Are there any security features that prevent this from happening??

PS: DON'T ACTUALLY TRY IT AT HOME!!

HAHAHAHAHA!!! YES!!!

IF ITS ON IT CAN TAKE OFF YOUR HAND MY HUSBAND WORKS ON THEM ALL THE TIME

Yes, and they can go down the drain.

Geez........I would assume they would get mangled but that is a good question.....never thought about there being a safety feature....ugh....I bet not......and I bet it would hurt. I hope no one tries it because fingers are very important.

There Is no way to avoid your fingers getting mangled at the least and chopped off at the most if you put them into a garbage disposal when it's turned on. The garbage disposal is supposed to do that to things put into it.

If it mangles forks and it does, i believe it will cut your fingers badly.

Probably yes.

Don't take chances. For that matter, don't install garbage disposals. You're best to compost fruit and veggie waste and simply toss animal waste. It's energy-efficient that way, too.

Don't wait to find out. Garbage disposals mangle things, including flesh. Keep your joints out of there to avoid all electronic devices. This is one of those, do you know or don't you know questions.

Obviously the average person knows that a garbage disposal can hurt you. But if they don't, then take warning. There are blades attached. Don't insert any body part. Hopefully, there aren't many fatalities/injuries b/c of this. Good luck!

if the machine is supposed to dispose of things like garbage i'm sure it doesn't know the different between garbage and fingers. so having said that i'm sure that if your hand is inside then your fingers will get mangled.

Try putting a carrot in it instead of your finger to see what happens..... a mess....

This is kind of a DUH kind of question and the company doing the suing appears to not understand the operation of their product.

A garbage disposer is designed to grind up large chunks of garbage into small pieces so that it will not clog the sewer or septic system and provide for the swift removal of waste from the home so as not to create a bio hazard due to decomposing food.

Sticking your hand in a garbage disposer while it is running, which, by the way, is controlled by a switch and normally makes a large noise when in operation, will cause damage to the skin and bones on the fingers but this would almost certainly be a conscious decision of the individual or be forced by another as the instinctive reaction would be to jerk your hand out of the disposer thus minimizing the damage to the hand.

Jesus is down in the drain. He will eat your fingers. Don't do it.

the fingers will only get mangled if:A.you get the hand in there. and B.you are stupid enough to turn said garbadge disposal "on".

what do you think of lighting the fuse to an artillary simulation while holding on to it firmly?a lot less chance of infection.

im sure it can cause anydamage to you and could actually lose a hand cause garbage disposers are dangerous and sharpi mean picture what it can do with trash which is nothing compared to a persons body part
