Severe pain in hand after being stuck by locust thorn?

Several weeks ago, my husband was cutting down a locust tree when he was stabbed in his knuckle by one of its thorns. He is still experiencing severe, arthritic type pain that radiates throughout his entire hand. The puncture wound has pretty much healed and he is sure that no part of the thorn broke off in his tendon. Is this an injury that takes a long time to heal? Is this something that he needs to see a doctor about, or are there things that he can do at home to eliviate the pain?

The knuckle is very hard to heel. You have to bend it all the time and that's why it is so hard to heal.Try some triple antibiotic cream and put a splint on it so you don't bend your finger at all. This should work.It will take a long time just watch out for infection.

Since it has been a few weeks it is time to see a doctor. If an infection is smoldering under the skin the area would be painful...

I've always heard locust thorns were poisonous. He should see a doctor to be on the safe side.I would!

your hubby should have it checked out. i've been pricked by rose thorns and had them stuck in me a little ways but was able to pull them out. and they stopped hurting by the day after or maybe a couple days later depending on how bad. if its red or anything he might have an infection. get it looked at though. its also possible he has part of it still in his skin.
