Just injured my hand, should I get it checked out immediately? |
Hello, everyone! I just hit my hand really hard in the corner of my computer desk, and now I鈥檓 getting a tingly, as well as numbness in my ring finger. It stills hurts! I also have a small bump where my hand was hit. However, I can move my hand and fingers just fine, and nothing seems fractured or broken; there鈥檚 no abrasion either. Could this be some kind of nerve injury? Should I go get it checked out immediately? It鈥檚 really late for me to drive to the hospital. Therefore, I don鈥檛 want to go at this time if it isn鈥檛 serious. I agree with everyone's answers except those from "dances_w" and "outlaw". This doesn't sound serious although I expect it was quite painful. You probably hit a nerve and may have a small amount of soft tissue trauma. Try to rest your hand and keep an ice pack on it as was suggested. Keep a towel between your skin and the ice pack. Antiinflammatories were also suggested by the same person and are a good idea. Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) or naproxen (Aleve) are helpful antiinflammatories and will work to relieve pain when taken as directed. Your hand could very well be sore for several days. If the pain isn't noticeably reduced in 48 hours or if your hand or finger swells or becomes discolored, report this to your doctor. It sounds like a nerve injury. Ice the hand. Take an anti-inflammatory. You should be able to wait until Monday to go to the doctor if it's not better by then. Can you use your other hand. If so, don't worry about it. Actually, I'd sleep on it, and see how it feels in the morning. Good luck. doesnt sond urgent. wait till monday when it is more convient unless it really really starts hurting. Take something for the swelling, like motrin or tylenol, and put a little ice on the bump to help with the swelling and pain. If you think it's injured, then it's best to go NOW. Why wait until a small injury becomes a big problem? yes as soon as you can It probably isn't serious and would most likely take a lot more to injure a nerve. It is probably just bruised pretty badly. The bump is just blood clotting there like when you hit your head and you get a bump. I would ice it and take ibeprofun for pain. If it still isn't any better in a few days I would see a doctor but if you can move your hand and fingers well you are probably okay. You can also wrap an ace bandage around your hand to keep it still and protected. Good luck! Doesn't sound too bad. I would go home put ice on the hand and elevate it above your heart, that keeps the blood from flowing to the spot that is hurt and cuts down on the pain. Take some ibprofan (sp), do not take asprin, and see how you get along. If it gets worse than you go see the doctor, but I think you should be ok. You ice a wound for the first two days and then apply heat after that. |
