Cutting and self injury? |
i get so mad when i read questions about cutting and the responses are so mean. so for everyone who has ever answered a question about cutting with a "your crazy" response, listen. its not necessarily a choice. it sucks and it is hard to deal with. some people live in secrecy for a long time, and if this is the only place that they can annonomously come out and ask for help, you guys are just shooting them down. if you dont do it, then you dont get it, and that is understandable, and yes a lot of thoes people should get help. saying that somone should "grow up" and jsut stop is not a good answer for somone asking for help...think about that next time you try to answer a question. be sympathetic and realize that its hard to come out and ask for help, especially with somethign as taboo as self injury. as much as noone wants to admit it, cutting and self injury are the new eating disorders, and usually go hand in hand. e.d. dont have the negative stigma that they once had but s.i. has tkaen its place and the world is having a lot of trouble dealignwith it. yes, some teenage kids are looking for attention, but no matter how small the problem begins, with s.i. it always grows to the point where severe help is needed. just be more kind on here...your makign these peopel asking for help more scared to ask for help form peopel that can relly help because they have already been rejected online. I so love you now. I self harm and sometimes I just ask a question about it because I don't know what to do. I get called a emo and a cry baby. It makes me mad because I have no on to talk to about it. I have been cutting for 4years and I don't ask questions about it anymore. I hate that people think that just because I'm 17 that I have no reason to be sad and they I have no real problems. I have been threw more **** then adults have. Thanks a lot I could not have wrote it better myself. I know I should tell my parents and I hate when people say that. Its not easy to say "hey Mom and Dad I cut myself". I totally agree! Well said. I know exactly what u mean, I went through burning myself for a long time and when I tried seeking help online I too got mean rude answers. And it hurts and it don't help when people say thing like that to you. So totally know what u mean. i agree with you Thank you and I hope that this can remind people that just because your 'anonymous' online doesn't give you the right to be a butthead. Especially when it comes to other peoples issues and concerns. That is very well said. Thank you for speaking up. It's interesting that you compared SI with ED's. I remember reading a book which made a similar comparison. This book said that for year EDs were mistreated as they were completely misunderstood. Then in the 70's, once more was understood about them the way they were treated changed and showed a much greater success rate. He goes on to say that the way SI is treated currently is similar to the way ED's used to be treated, with negativity and as if the sufferer is to blame for their condition but that as research teaches us more about SI attitudes will change. icut my wrists some times as well ay man to that. I agree with you. Anyone else who thinks telling someone who already is dealing with S.I. that they are crazy is a GOOD idea, they need to step back and evaluate their compassion and read up on the subject. I'm struggling to recover from S.I. and I know how hard it is. It's dreadfully hard. It's a horrible addiction. And I HIDE my scars. I don't WANT attention. So when I reach out for help, that is precisely what I am asking for--HELP. We are NOT crazy. We are people who are in a tough situation. i know i have a eating disorder and im a cutter and i have been hospilt 2 times for cutting i tottly agre with u how do we get the real help when noones wants to understand self injury? We are not crazy we just want to be kind to other and not hurt anyone but self,so be glad that we are injuring self not others. |
