Why do people think Tourette's Syndrome is all about cursing?

& that Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is all about hand-washing & staying clean, & that Bipolar is all about being happy or sad, & that schizophrenia is all about delusions & multiple personality, & that depression is all about suicide?

There's more symptoms to these disorders than the ones listed.

Probably because those are the most dramatic things about the disorders, the things you'd notice first.

People tend to simplify things- and lots of people talk big big big about things they don't know very much about! The reverse of that is, it's amazing how much people will believe you, if you just sound confident enough! I find it both kind of funny and kinda scary...

PS- multiple personality and schizophrenia are totally different things!

Because those rare symptoms are the only ones sensationalized by the movies and media (shame on them). That is not what it is really like for most TS patients. Report It

yeah its called stereotypical....like everything i suppose. i have a friend who has tourettes but not the verbal. People who are uneducated in this field use these stereotypics to get their point across or on occasions ridicule.....its like diabetes....is all about not being able to eat sweeets.....its like with most things but its only brought to peoples attention when they are in the situation themselves.

Well of course there are but these are the tell-tale signs that simpletons in the general public recognize.

i dont kno but i wouldnt judge a person any disorders becuz they cant control it or prevent it

and lack of compassion

Only people that have truly suffered from the disorders mentioned above or who have had loved ones with the disorders know what they are really like. People make things up and don't really know what the true meaning is. If they took the time to get some literature on the disorders they might actually know what the people are going through. It is not as simple minded as it seems to be.
