Is there help & hope for 52 Yr old male with Reactive Attachment, Survivor of physical abuse& neglect?

Is there any hope???? Can anyone HELP??? Is it too late??? What happens to a child that was neglected from birth - 6 years, then given up for adoption to a non-nurturing mother, and battered, beaten, broken and bruised by an alcoholic father until the age of 16? HELP? I'm speaking about my husband, who is now 52. My intelligent self is able to understand what some of the issues are...lack of empathy regarding situations in the relationship, inability, need or desire for physical touch, no concept of foreplay. Unable to Communicate personal feelings, thoughts. Living with an adult survivor of neglect and abuse has taken it's toll. I see first hand the effects af attachment disorder. His abusive past is affecting everything about the present and gotten worse this year. Where do you go for help, with little money, and insurance that it only minimal?

There's always hope as long as a person is still alive and breathing. If you live in the U.S., there are counseling centers that having sliding scales. Contact your local United Way and ask for a referral to one of these places in your community. Ideally, you could work with an attachment therapist. But if you are unable to access one, just working on his PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), will make a big difference. The problem is, he has to want help. If he doesn't, you should go to counseling to learn some coping skills and get support for yourself.

there's always hope
find a good woman to love and give it time
love can heal all kinds of things

See www.drdrew.com & http://www.mental-health-today.com/ (.com/ptsd/index.html) Use the Webferret search engine, or your own, & the Google & Wikipedia websites on reactive attachment (multiple hits). Relationship/marriage counselling, perhaps through the Methodist or Catholic church. Contact your county/local mental health agency.
