Have hallucinogens ever changed your life?

I used a hallucinogen in a clinical setting and defeated a life of depression in a single day. Has anyone else experienced this?

I think that when used properly, they can provide a pseudo-religious experience that can lead to enlightenment. However, they can also make you lose your frickin' mind!

hallucinogens killed my brother, horribly....I'd say that altered my life pretty effectively, I loved my brother.

It changed mine. I really decided during one of my profound trips that I wanted to embark on a career path that could the world, so I decided to try my hand at high-level government work, with the hopes of becoming a person of influence and a catalyst for change.

Unfortunately, the drugs also had the effect of exacerbating a lot of my social phobias and paranoias, so I haven't been incredibly successful at it. :-/

Yep, hallucinogens changed my life but sadly I didn't share your experience. Ever since trying acid/cannabis/psilocybe mushrooms when I was about 14 I've had a long standing anxiety/panic disorder which often leaves me feeling less than cheerful. I'm 46 now. Personally, as far as life changing experiences go I don't recommend it.

what is hallucinogens?

Psychoactive substances, depending on the quality of substance, level of dosage, and period of time in which the use of the drug is practiced, can and will produce long lasting pyschological impressions on your mental, spiritual, and even your physiological self. Please note that in the instance of substances such as MDMA (the psychoactive substance found in ecstasy as well as a pharmaceutically synthesized version of meth), which has been known to be used in clinical settings, alters the chemical patterns in your brain, most notably in your serotonin and dopamine receptors. This is a common trait in several other hallucinogenic substances as well. The main concern is that this over-stimulates your neural transmitters into releasing larger amounts of both chemicals even long after the session with the drug has ended. Your brain, however produces only so much of each chemical and, after a while, is depleted of them. This means that, over time, what may be percieved as a postive outcome can easily lapse into a more chaotic (and even manic) depressional state, and the need for chemical balancing medications may become neccessary. While perhaps all of this may be rhetorical in answering your question, I will rectify that by saying, "Yes, I have experienced pychosis' quite similiar to what you describe." I do hope that your positive experience and outcome will be longer lasting than mine has been, but please bear in mind that hallucinogens can help and they can hurt. They can open your mind to more readily understand knowledges and ways that were previously foreign to you, but not all avenues of perception were meant to be opened and sometimes they carry a heavy price. Please tread carefully if you are considering further use of hallucinogens and keep in mind the old axiom, "One man's solution is another man's problem."

after many acid and x trips.. i now live with anxiety and panic disorder.. which i attribute to my teenyears of trippn. be careful what you take.. you can totally open doors that you can never shut again.. and it is absolutely terrifying to have a bad trip.. i still shudder to this day thinking of mine... and that was nearly a decade ago. i don't recommend them in any shape or form... they are illegal for a reason!! and don't trust clinical trials.. you are just a number to them!!!!!!

ya I have had profound change in beliefs, I am not so much sure that it is for the better or worse. But it does not really matter. I have had other things teach me hard lessons in life that have changed me also.
