Can LSD and other hallucinogens really be benificial drugs?

Studies are finally being done to continue the research of the 60s into the use of LSD for psychiatric reason....research is finally being allowed...one trip can apparently leave an emotionally disturbed person stable for very long periods even lifetime.

People do not jump off buildings and if they did then one could follow Timothy Leary's plan of always doing it in controlled environments.

im a firm belive that drugs can be used to explore your mind. its a direct feeling and you know it will work unlike prayer or meditation which can take years of practice. the problem is that people take most psycedllics in "party settings". if you are useing them for a mind exploreing experence follow these guidelines:
1. be in a familer area
2. have a few good friends and people you trust 2-3 at max
3. music sould be kept low enough so it dosent over power you
4. TRY NOT TO TRIP IN PUBLIC! ( unless you know 100% you can control yourself)
5. try to stay still keep ypur eyes closed and let yourself go

if you follow these and you are serious about is you can have you eyes opened to things you would never even imagine possable.

Oh, yeah, of course!!! Wow I sure was dumb thinking this was a bad drug!

(That was sarcastic.)

That drug is NOT beneficial, people jump off buildings or into fires, and some people have blown up their houses with their children inside while under the influence of that drug.

That's not very beneficial in my opinion.

Yeah... those druds are bad. They kill you.

Aside from the use of Steroids, name one successful drug addict that doesn't have, social issues, criminal issues, financial issues, etc.....

That alone should clearly demonstrate there is no benefit!

It could be possible, and for all of you morons LSD is not addicting, most people use LSD to show them another world which could be beneficial to a mentally insane person. I don't know I'm not a scientist, but it could be possible.

I think its great that they are finally resuming the research... its such a waste for a drug that can so greatly shift peoples perspectives not to be investigated further... I think you'll find most people who are against LSD use in every setting are closed minded and do not know enough about the drug to even be opposed to it.

LSD helped me a lot, one time was all it took...but truly, an unstable person might have a psychotic break because there were times I had to calm myself during the trip and assure myself I was going to be fine...

But LSD can get a narcotic addict off narcotics for good.

Unfortunately LSD because of it's not specific targeting it is ineffectual for use as a psychotropic medication and will remain considered an intoxicant.

I've met quite a few "kids" over 21 years in AA/NA that have LSD induced schizophrenia. One bad trip can trigger the schizophrenic response. I don't believe the FDA would ever approve human studies with acid. Maybe with rat, mouse or monkeys..

Contrary to the idiot above esposing using it to treat mental illness nothing about LSD would make a sane person out of a schizophrenic, or a depressive. It might elevate depression to some degree, but the side effects could be long term schizophrenia.

Shall I answer this as one who has taken more LSD than is decent in the distant past?

Lysergic Acid Diethylamide is NOT addictive. Get that one first. You crash when your trip is over and other than being tired and hungry, that is all that remains... plus the visions, distorted as they may be.

LSD was used for mind control experiments on a massive scale in the hippie flower power days. We did not know we were being used as guinea pigs. But we were being duped. Timothy Leary, Ken Kesey, and all the others who promoted the LSD culture were also involved with the CIA.

Betcha didn't know that did you? ( Actually all movements of the time, feminism, playboyism, "god is dead", free love, etc can be traced back to the CIA)

But back to LSD. Having done a LOT of acid, and never having had a single bad or paranoid trip, I cannot see how it can help anyone with anything. It is a mind opener ok.. but at what cost? I knew one or two building jumpers and so on, but never went there myself so to speak.

As an older person, I am sure that much of my memory difficulties and a few other small problems can be traced back to the drug. When you read the ways LSD was used for testing by the CIA, the horrors that resulted, you might wonder if this drug is good for anything. There is a reason Canadians used as guinea pigs sued the CIA for billions and won!

Personally, I know of four young men who are permanently schizophrenic because LSD set it off. This is a medically accepted fact because schizophrenia can first make itself known around the mid to late teens. The LSD just hastened and blew the condition up to a horrendous point.

I think this is too dicey a thing to play around with, especially with a person already having reality difficulties. I cannot see how the mental chaos of a trip can help someone already living in state of confusion. LSD cannot be predicted in terms of where it will go with the patient's mind! This is impossible to document accurately. But that is only one ex user's opinion.
