Can I eat 'shrooms' while taking antidepressants?

Before you warn me, I know hallucinogens and depression is not a good combination, but I've done shrooms a few times and the past and can handle it. In fact, shrooms tend to come with a slight antidepressant effect after the trip is over since they force your mind to work on emotional and spiritual matters.

And yes, I know illegal substance, blah blah blah anti-drug. Hallucinogens have been used for medicinal and spiritual purposes for thousands of years. And responsible drug use does not make one stupid, I'm intelligent with a high GPA in uni and I teach.

So, how safe is it to take 'shrooms' while on antidepressants? As in is it more dangerous than taking 'shrooms' without an added antidepressant? Valid sources are a must.

why the hell not
mix with some amphetamine and some good old ketamine and wash it all down with half a bottle of cheap wine and your off

I would not do it!

it might not let the shrooms work!! i know if you take acid, and want to stop the trip, take antidepressents and it will stop.

Sound like you already have your mind made up. Best of luck with that.

I would not advise it.However if you do take only a little bit( anti-depression) before you use shrooms). Mixing drugs is never a good idea(unless someelse tried it first -just kidding hee hee)

Whenever I had a question on mixing I went to Erowid.com. Excellent site.

I've mixed the two, I was on Paxil for a while (for anxiety not depression). Mixing the two has no chemical side effect, however mental side effects are a crap-shoot. As I'm sure you know, you need to be in a good comfortable setting, and as long as your mind is at ease, you shouldnt have any problems.

Sure, go for it. I feel a permatrip in your future. You've already got some mental issues. Why not bring on the psychosis early? You only live once, right?

You do realize i'm being sarcastic, don't you? I'm not a goody two shoes by any means when it comes to drugs, HOWEVER, I don't suffer from depression. You're asking for a problem here. You've done them before. Good for you. Then you should know each trip is different. You don't know for sure if this one is going to be the one that sends you over the edge. And, with antideppresant medication in your system that's already affecting your brain's chemistry, why would you want to throw another twist in there?

Not a good idea.

it would depend on the amount of shrooms... and it would depend on the type and dosage of the antidepressent...
for instance if you only take a low dose 20mg prozac with shrooms it would not be so bad..
if you take a 20 mg lexapro, or simaler, then might not be such a good idea...
if you take depakote, or any other anti-psychotic with the shrooms.. well, have 911 on speed dial...

check out this website, im not sure what kind of antidepressants you are on but this may be helpful. plus just a wonderful site to do some investigating about drugs before you do or dont try them.

Do you understand the fact that the reason you are hallucinating is because the front of your brain is bleeding, yeah htat sounds like a great time to me. No it is not ok!!

Sorry stinko, I cannot reconcile "intelligence" with mixing prescription drugs with a natural hallucinogenic.

I think you are a moron (and a jackass).

thanks to whoever mentioned erowid, it's an interesting site.

From my quick skimming, I'd say it depends what anti-depressant you're on. Better check the link below, and REALLY think about how to adjust the dose.

You're right about hallucinogens being used 1000s of years for sacred ritual purposes. And having tried them, I can't say "don't." without being a hypocrite.

I can say they are risky, not to be used as a party drug. And give yourself a few years more practice using your mind as it is before you try expanding it. More details on that another time though. (Meditation figures heavily in that discussion, and I'm short on time.)

Wah phucking wah!

Eat your damn drugs already and quit whining.

Do what you have to do, and phuck all the rest.

Peace and hugs Ms. Cupcakes Muffin!
