Hashimoto's disease and hair loss?

I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease, my antiboties were over 600. Anyway my hair has been shedding since the end of July. It comes out with the follicle attached. I have or at least had very thick hair so to someone who did not know me they would not know it was falling out. Anyway after test after test I got this diagnoses and the endocrinoligist said that my "levels" were still in range. I have been experiencing severe fatigue, hair loss, weight gain, and depression and was devestated to hear that I was "normal". He finially put me on the generic synthriod at the lost dose, 25, I think more to shut me up than to help. How long does it take before I will notice a difference regarding my mood and hair?

My endocrinoligist said that I was symptomatic but that my lab work did not reflect any problems with my hormone production.

I have hashimoto's disease and was diagnosed with it about 4 years ago..i have gained a ton of weight, im on synthriod 137 my dr (endo) just up my does because i can tell when my thyroid is going out of wack i have fatigue, my body aches (muscles) my scalp hurts, it actually hurts to touch my hair. well when my dr ran my blood work it was within range, but since i was having all the symptoms he upped it a lil to the 137, he said that with hashimoto's disease you cant always go by whats on the paper (blood work) that you have to take into consideration what the patient is experiencing (symptoms). I can tell the difference within a week the when Im put on a new dose. How often does he check your blood levels? I go every 3 months and have my blood drawn

go to www.webmd.com and put that in the search engine and it will tell you all about it.. good luck

What exactly was normal? Thyroid antibodies of any kind over 600 certainly are not normal. It sounds like you were lucky to get an antibody test and a diagnosis though. What other test is your endo basing this "normal" diagnosis on??

Did you have a TSH test? Because TSH is irrelevant. It is an indirect, second hand way to GUESS at what your thyroid hormone levels are. TSH isn't a thyroid hormone, and it doesn't control your symptoms. Thyroid hormone tests are free T3 and free T4.
