Why do i compulsively pull my hair? |
i am extremely addicted to pulling my hair at the side of my head and twisting it up into a really tight ball against my head them running it through my fingers. i usually do it subconciously when i sit on the computer or other activities like that. i try to stop but i simply cannot i always end up doing it when im not thinking about it. i tried to research it online and i found my symptoms are very similiar to trichotillomania, but with that disease you actually pull your hair out of your head. i just curl it up into a tight ball and stuff. i know this is reallly weird but if anyone knows what my problem is or has a similiar problem will they please let me know and also if anyone knows ways to beat this habit? Ooooh these silly habits. Why do we love them? Do something else to keep your hands busy while you ween yourself off of this... Try taking up a hobby. Cooking? Knitting? Keep a rubber band or hair tie on your wrist and snap it when you start to do the twirl. You'll stop eventually. Good luck :D Its an idle habit kind of like biting your nails. My suggestion is to keep your hands moving, or chew gum that helped me stop doing that bcoz you like your hair much(hope so) It sounds to me you are about as nutty as a loony toon. Maybe you should get some help there. Or try drugs. Drugs may make you a little bit less crazy. Well my friend has that. She used to pulled out eyelashes and hair. When she was nervous ,but she didn't realize it so what she did. She got one of those brushes i don't know what their called, but when she feels like pulling then she gets the brush and pulls out of it. it makes her feel better and now her eyelashes are growing back. if u always do that u can become bald it definelly a habit so try to stop doing it it seems more like an ocd thing than a trich thing but it can very well develop into hair pulling and trust me you want to stop before you reach that point. i would look to a psychologist who specialized in ocd and other obssesive behaviors. it is treatable through behavior modification therapy. What you have is an impulse control disorder called trichotillomania. I can't link to wikipedia on here, but you should check it out on that |
