Daughter was sick in hosp..hair BADLY matted?

Hi all, I saw some of the other responses to earlier questions but I am hoping for some new eyes and some new answers. My daughter who is 13 suffers from a rare and incurable disease that she got 4 yrs ago. She was in the hosp recently again but this time for an extended period of time. She has long hair. Well, with us unsure if she would live, her hair was not high on anyones list. As a result, it is so incredibly matted, I have never seen anything like this. It is almost solid. I am hoping someone knows of a wonderful miracle kind of product that will help me save this childs hair. With all she has been through.....her treatments are incredibly painful.....I want to do all I can to save the hair that she absolutely loves. I cant break her heart again. I have tried the No More Tangles.etc..NOTHING....Please if someone has ANY clue as to getting this out, I cannot tell you how much this mother would appreciate it. Thanks for taking the time to read this....

it sounds like dread locks...the only way
I know of is to cut them out......sorry....search google to see if there are remedies....

what about putting mayo threw it? saturate it with the mayo and start from the top and comb down pulling it apart as you go.
just a thought.. you may have to cut a couple of inches or so . good luck.

i would wet her hair, dump a ton of conditioiner on it, then brush her hair with the conditioner in it from the bottom up. i know it sounds wierd but i m a swimmer and i find that the sprays dont help but if its really bad brushing slowly from the bottom up helps, good luck and tell her to feel better!!

If you are that desperate to get it out, you might try peanut butter or petroleum jelly or something. It might help lubricate the hair so you can brush it out. And you'll have to start at the bottom of the hair and work your way up. I don't really know if it would work, but I'd try something that would stay on her hair, at least until I could brush it out, because hair washes. I'd rather be able to brush her hair out and have to wash it then not be able to brush it. I hope you find something that works.

Steps: Apply oil or hair detangler on hair. Any greasy hair oil can be used. Use a large quantity if hair if thoroughly matted.
Once the hair is well-oiled, try to separate the strands using your fingers. Don't use the comb at first, because it will hurt a lot.
In order not to cause pain, hold the hair near the scalp with one hand, and use the other hand to untangle. This way, when you pull, there will be no pressure on the scalp.
If the hair is long, hold in the middle and start seperating from the bottom up with your fingers if you can. If not try the wide tooth comb until you get most of the matting out.
Then take the wide toothed comb and put it through the hair.
By this time, if you have done it correctly, then most of the hair will be untangled.
Lastly comb with a fine-toothed comb.
Wash off oil if required.

Tips: Alternatively, you can use olive oil instead of the greasy hair oil.

Things You'll Need: Hair oil, olive oil or hair detangler
Wide-toothed comb
Fine-toothed comb
Shampoo (to wash your hair afterwards)
Time and patience

im so sorry

you could just rtrying to comb out just a tiny bit at a time with loads of conditioner.

i had waist length hair which was very difficult to comb, curly and tangly, and the only way i could do it was to go through a lot of conditioner and do it while i was standing in the shower with the water running down it, the motion of the water seemed to add to the combing.

it was always painful though and i have cut mine to shoulder length now, its soooo much easier, sometimes cutting a few inches off the bottom will release the tangles, without the shock of cutting it all off

I am very sorry. I had a similar problem when I was on chemo/radiation....I was too sick to tend to my hair (it's down to my waist), and it got tangled and nasty. I ended up cutting some of the tangles out, and the rest I worked through with a wide tooth comb. I first put on conditioner (don't wet the hair, it will then break), LOTS of conditioner, and patiently worked out the problem areas. My arms got tired; my friend helped me when i couldn't do it anymore. Once you get it undone (or cut out), buy your daughter a satin pillowcase. I used one when I was sick, and it kept my hair smoother and I didn't lose as much when I was on chemo. Good luck to you and your daughter. :)

matthew is correct! Oil will work as well as conditioner (but is harder to wash out). But he is absolutey right!

If you can get the tangles out I would make sure you braid her hair to avoid it happening again. I hope your liitle girl can keep her hair I can feel your pain. Best of luck.
