St johns wort/hrt? |
Can st johns wort be used with HRT? Does it interfere with the HRT? I take St John's Wort in a low dose and I am on HRT patches and this is okay. If you are taking St John's Wort for depression, it may be that your HRT dose needs changing - maybe you need more progesterone? We aware that St John's Wort can make you photosensitive, so if you are prone to getting sunburnt, make sure you use a high factor suncream or total sun block while you are taking it. St. John's wort may well reduce blood levels and effectiveness of the hormones. It speeds elimination of the hormones in oral contraceptives, which are similar to those you are taking. Report It St John's Wort has been shown to cause inefficacy to birth control pills but I doubt that it would directly effect HRT. You might check with your pharmacist, but I think it should be fine, since HRT isn't a contraceptive. |
