Hpv???????????????????

okay i have just been told that i have HPV and i am wanting to get married in march however if i do will i be able to have children and enjoy my life with my love and my family because at the moments now they hate my boyfriend so i need some words of wisdom

I found out I have HPV and my BF stuck by me. To be completly honest I don't think HPV, is really the worst thing in the world. I got cervical cancer from it and the whole nine yards. I am now happily married and have a son on the way. Tell your family to mind their own business and actually read up on HPV, because technically it's not his fault their are no HPV tests for men. Also, it's not just an STD you can get it from virtually anywhere. Hope I helped.

You can ask people here, maybe they can help you.

yes my friend found out she had hpv when she was pregnate. she had a healthy baby girl and is happily married. although you should make sure to get your regular papsmears because this can up your chances for cervical cancer. i think that some strains even cause herpies but i'm sure that if you had that strain than your doctor would have told you.

Talk to your OB/GYN. Educate your family and partner. Probably your life is going to be fine, with all the possibilities you mention - but you do need some follow-up as some HPV infections persist and this may relate to risk for cervical cancer. So - talk to your doc.

"If I tested positive for HPV, what does this mean for me?

Most HPV infections go away without treatment because the immune system finds the virus and either gets rid of it or suppresses it to the point that it is unlikely to cause additional problems. Cell changes that may eventually lead to cervical cancer only occur when this does not happen and HPV stays for many years. Even though HPV is found in cervical cancer, most people testing positive for HPV are not at risk for getting cervical cancer because they have the virus for only a short time (months rather than many years). Therefore, women with a normal Pap who test positive for HPV will usually be tested for HPV again in 6-12 months. Testing positive a second time does not mean that there is great risk of cervical cancer, or even of cell changes that may lead to cervical cancer, but it does mean that further evaluation will likely be recommended."

"Will I have the HPV virus forever?
Probably not. HPV infection is very common, but it usually clears, or is suppressed by the immune system, within 1-2 years"

"If I test positive for HPV, how did I get it?
HPV is usually acquired by direct skin-to-skin contact during intimate sexual contact with someone who is infected. Most men and women are not aware that they have the virus. Condoms do not offer complete protection from HPV. Increasing numbers of partners increases the risk of getting HPV, but the virus is so common that having only a single lifetime partner does not assure protection. It is usually impossible to determine when, and from whom, HPV was caught. HPV may be detected fairly soon after exposure, or may not be found until many years later. For all these reasons, it is not helpful, nor fair to blame your partner."

yes you can go on with your life. i know someone who found out they had it. they have two beautiful children. not only that for the last 7 years she has tested negative for it. anything can happen good luck.

I have "high risk" type 16 HPV and I can tell you that you might not have gotten it from your boyfriend. If you have ever had unprotected intercourse w/any one else before him it could be from them. HPV can lay dorment for years before showing up in a pap. So, your family should give him a break, unless he's the only one you had unprotected intercourse with. And you can have a perfectly healthy baby w/o passing the virus to it. HPV will go away over time once your body's immune system fights it off. Once it is supressed you will become immune to that specific type of HPV but not the others so you should get the Gardisil vaccine (even if you have HPV). The upside is that you and your boyfriend cannot pass HPV back and forth to each other (as in get re-infected). And HPV is a topical/skin virus so it is not in your body or blood. It is passed through skin-to-skin contact during sexual intercourse. There are approximately 100 types of HPV and the "high risk" types are 16, 18, 31, 33, & 45 which can cause cervical cancer. The "low risk" types are 6 & 11 which can cause genital warts, while the rest will cause abnormal paps. So, I hope that the type you have is "low risk" because I had to get a LEEP procedure done due to the type I have and it isn't pleasant. You can find out the type from your doctor, and if curious, about what a LEEP procedure is. Also the Gardisil vaccine is approved for ages 9-26yrs old and is stated to be 95-100% effective by the FDA so it is highly recommended. If you need more info. check out the sites and the HPV group on yahoo.

Calm down!!! HPV is extremely common. There are 2 types - low risk HPV which causes warts (never cancerous) and high risk HPV which can cause abnormal cell and/or lead to cervical cancer. One thing you need to know is that it's so common that even some doctors believe it's as common as a cold. It's thought to be a part of being a sexually active person. If you have had 3 partners, consider yourself exposed. Most people with HPV never know it. Most people with HPV will never develop anything.

You do need to see your doctor regularly and take care of yourself. If you smoke, stop. Take extra folic acid, a good vitamin, and avoid other STD's.

Yes, you will be able to have children. All the women I know who have HPV, also have had children and everything was fine.

Well you having HPV could not be related to ur boyfriend unless he is the only one you have ever had genital contact with. If you have had multiple partners it is impossible to tell who you got it from because you can have HPV for a long time befor it shows up in a test.

HPV itself should not affect ur future pregnancies unless you have a strain that causes warts. HPV warts are called Condyloma or condylomata acuminata. These warts can spread to the baby in a vaginal delivery. Known as laryngeal papillomatosis, HPV very rarely develops warts in the throat or voice box. The warts can cause breathing problems in the baby, but it is easily treated with no further complications.

Treatments that are needed to eliminate abnormal cell growth caused by HPV can cause a wide range of problems. Cone Biopsy: There is also a slight risk of infection or perforation of the uterus. In a few women, the cervical canal becomes narrowed or completely blocked, which can later interfere with the movement of sperm. This can impair a woman's fertility.
If too much muscle tissue has been removed, the procedure can lead to an incompetent cervix, which can be a problem with subsequent pregnancies. An incompetent cervix cannot seal properly to maintain a pregnancy. If untreated, the condition increases the odds of miscarriage or premature labor.Loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) :infection, hemorrhage, and damage to the cervical stroma (connective tissue) which may lead to Cervical Constriction or Incompetence. Cervical Incompetence is a condition in which a pregnant woman's cervix begins to dilate and thin before her pregnancy has reached full term. Cervical Incompetence is a cause of miscarriages and preterm birth in the second and third trimesters.

Now remember just because you have HPV does not mean yuo have abnormal cells. You may never get abnormal cells and there for will be perfectly able to have childern. All the above risks do not happen to all women who under go the procedures. They are just the risks and there are other treatment options.

I wish you the best of luck. I myself have "high risk" HPV. I found out in Janurary. But i dont have cell changes and am hoping it stays that way.

PS you can only spread HPV if you have an active out break of abnormal cells or Condyloma. Condoms only reduce the risk of transfer by an estimated 70%.

Yes you will. A lot and I mean A LOT of people have this. Estimates are between 50 and 85% of the younger generation. I have it. All of my friends have it. And we all lead perfectly normal lives. For more info, read some of my previous answers or feel free to e-mail me with any questions.

I'm desperately trying to attack the stigma attached to this disease!!!
