HPV is gone, still abnormal cells? |
I was told I had HPV in Jan of 2005. High-risk. So I had multiple paps and biopsies. My last one in may came back negative for HPV, but I had abnormal cells still. I had HPV and had a biopsy, and later a LEEP conization. Basically they take this electric wand with a loop of wire on it and go in and scrape off the outer layer of your cervix to remove the pre-cancerous cells. This isn't nearly as effective as a full cone biopsy (where they remove a large, cone-shaped section of your cervix) but it removes very little of your cervix and still enables you to carry a baby to term. I was terrified of this when I became pregnant with my first child, and my ob/gyn said if anything, women who have a LEEP done don't dilate as fast and have to be induced because of scar tissue on the cervix. Depending on how much of your cervix they have to scrape/burn off, this could cause your cervix to become thin, so you might need a cerclage (a stitch to hold your cervix closed). Those are questions you should defiantly ask your doctor about. I also have abnormal cells caused by HPV and am in a high risk category for cervical cancer. I didn't have this problem until giving birth this past January. I also have to go in for paps and copolscapys. |
