What are HSV & HPV differences? Serious responses only pls.?

Here are our facts:
- married for 13 yrs, have a strict monogamous relationship
- husband had only 1 past relationship, none for me
- was detected with high risk HPV 5 mths ago but last 2 tests came back not detected
- 1 mth ago, husband had 1 lesion/bump on penis but went away & did not go to his dr
- this past wk, I noticed 1 bump on my genital area
- researched about HSV on internet & suspected HSV on us due to some symptoms listed applied to us

Here are our ?s:
- could it be a genital wart rather than HSV? similar symptoms?
- can low risk HPV develop from having high risk HPV?
- can HSV have same latency period as HPV? we just never noticed these bumps due to the fact we just knew about HPV recently.
- could we have both HSV and HPV at the same time?

I will be visiting my dr tomorrow by the way. We just want to find out what other people know about these 2 types of virus.

Its probably more HPV, Herpes tends to be more characterized by a cluster of red PAINFUL bumps that burst and turn into ulcers rather than a lesion that went away over time. However, these viruses tend to have different symptoms in different people.

One is herpes, one is genital warts.
They look completely different.
Totally different...I don't what your confused about.

If it's a small bump, it's HPV. It's a wart. Get it burned off.

- could it be a genital wart rather than HSV? similar symptoms?

HPV is genital warts. Some strains of HPV cause cervical cancer instead of warts. They are all called HPV. HSV is herpes, it looks completely different. Red pussing and irritated. Warts are little lumps that do nothing. Very different.

- can low risk HPV develop from having high risk HPV?

Low risk is warts, high risk is cervical cancer(I think). There are about 32 strains of HPV. 4 common. 2 cause warts.

- can HSV have same latency period as HPV? we just never noticed these bumps due to the fact we just knew about HPV recently.

HSV usually shows up in a couple weeks. On rare occasions it can sit for a long time. HPV usually sits for years without doing anything. Most of the bumps look like nothing and nobody even notices them. If your papsmear had not come up with HPV you probably would have never noticed.

- could we have both HSV and HPV at the same time?

Yup. They are completely different and unrelated. You don't have HSV, You would know it haha.

The warts are nothing to worry about and they usually go away on there own. Go see your doctor though.
Please don't get stressed out about it. It's not a big deal. 80% of the population has the virus at some point in their life. It's very common.Your husband probably got it from the one girl he was with and it's sat around for 13yrs in both of you.

Hope this helps :)

Hi, the main concern I would have is about the HSV not the HPV. High risk or not something can be done to fix it. HSV is non curable, medication is avaiable to help relieve the pain and discomfort and to lessen future outbreaks, but HPV can be removed. Did these bumps yours or your husbands have any severe burning sensations when they were touched or during urination. EXTREME pain is caused along with itching upon urination for example with HSV. With HPV the area would be tender but not as painful. Unfortunately the are many differences but the best way is to see your Dr. like you are and if the bumps/ sores arise again try to refrain from any contact with your husband for the sake of both of you until you know what is really going on. Good luck and hopefully its just an ingrown hair or something different. :-)
