Do any Dental HMO's help pay for Amalgam or Porcelain crowns? |
I have SmileSaver insurance and have always picked a dentist in the network. However, I have had 3 crowns that cost me over $800 each because they were Porcelain (I believe - they are called Cerac crowns?). I also had 2 root canals that cost me $850 each, then they had to be filled with Porcelain costing me another $250 or so. I am wondering if there is any HMO insurance that would pay more for these? I am in California. I don't want a PPO because I always need a lot of dental work and would hit my maximum benefit within one visit. Thanks! You should try a dental benefits plan. Usually there are no caps on coverage and there is no deductible. The dental plan I use covers cosmetic procedures. Traditional insurance would never cover cosmetic procedure! Im not sure if its available by you, but I know Blue Cross insurance does because I just had a crown done a couple months ago, and they covered it all...unfortunately i dont have any benefits left for this year to have any more work done now. :) The Cerec Crowns are wonderful. They do not contain any metal like amalgam that is a combination of silver and mercury. You need to read your insurance plan well. Many lower end policies do not cover certain procedures at all or have waiting periods for coverage. I'm in Ca and use Blue Cross Premier Dental. It does cover most basic dental work but there is a copay. I chose gold mix crowns and they barely covered that though. But the silver ones they did about 20% or more, I forget. No maximums though. In Ca, try Kaiser, Delta Dental or check w/Western Dental. I met w/a few agents before making a decision. It's free and you're under no obligation to buy. You can do it over the phone or at their branches. You can also request benefits booklets from each and compare. That's free too. Delta Dental was the best but slightly over my budget. Blue Cross cost me about $18 a month but they have lower ones. Good luck! |
