Do you know of anyone who was sentenced to die by an HMO?

I had a friend whose brother died because his HMO refused to pay for the bone-marrow transplant he desperately needed.

Thanks. I lost touch with this woman and I don't know what happened after he died, but he wasn't an old man.

By the way, I found the person who made a comment about people over 65 very heartless. Wait 'til you get to be that age and see how you feel.

We have exited a golden age where people thought a life was worth any cost and are re-entering a scary age were a (low) price is being put on human life.

I know of a doc friend who told the story of a patient of his .. a little old lady who almost died because they said a bed sore did not need treatment. Luckily she got a second opinion .. and got treatment and got the HMO to pay. But they did not want to pay $100,000 to spruce up an 80 year old lady. Because of lack of early treatment .. she was in the hospital for a long time.

I know of a college aged girl who the hosiptal gave a drug that they should not have .. it killed her kidneys. later she was able to get a kidney donar and her insurance would pay for the dialiasis and for the kidney but not for the anti-rejection drugs. I lost track of what happened, but she was fighting her disease and the system for 3 years.

have them contact a malpractice lawyer, what they did was unethical and is against the law, tell them that they have to do it soon before the statute of limitations wears out

The idiots probably considered it to be experimental. Contact an attorney and make sure they are provided a copy of the insurance papers.

If I was the once giving out life-saving funds from insurance I wouldn't want to save the life of anyone over 65 either. I'd much rather the money went to people a little younger.

No, but I watched a nursing home starve my grandma to death and covering it up. My thoughts are with you and I hope you find grounds to fry these people
