married/ no kids Well... If you don't mind following the rules of an HMO and don't mind using only in-network doctors, I say go with the HMO. Usually, you pay less out-of-pocket with an HMO than a PPO.
PPO allows you more freedom as far as choosing doctors since you have in-network and out of network doctors to choose from. BUT... just remember the minute you start using out of network docs, you start paying large deductibles and coinsurances instead of copays.
My advice would be to research their in-network doctors and see if all of your docs are on their list. If they are and it's an HMO that doesnt have a deductible and the copays are small, I would choose the HMO over the PPO anyday.
I have seen some really NASTY PPO plans with extremely high deductibles- up in the thousands before insurance will even pick up the bill! Typically you get a better range of care from PPO, but they have a larger deductible and co-pay. Double edge sword. |
