Unusual HIV question: Can one NOT get HIV if one accidentally have bodily contact with an HIV person? |
I heard if one (e.g. nurse/doctor) accidentally exchange bodily fluid (e.g blood) through a cut with an HIV patient, there's a certain drug taken or blood tranfusion that can be done to prevent that person having HIV in the future. The procedure is toxic and expensive that's why it's not widely known... I was told the procedure must be done within a certain time frame (24 or 48, can't remember)... Is this true? I have never heard anything like that before. I don't believe this is true... If someone know about this, please state your RELIABLE reference. I don't believe word of mouth... At this moment, I know that there's no cure for HIV. If a healthcare owrker comes in contact with a HIV positive persons blood via needle stick, etc. The healthcare worker can be started on mega doses of a gamma globulin that works to boost their immune system and fight the very weak initial stages of the virus. HIV is actually a very fragile virus, much more fragile than Hepatitis B or other communicable diseases. You are correct, there is no cure for HIV/AIDS but immediate administration of the anti-viral drugs can keep an occupational exposure from turning into full blown AIDS. The most important thing is that how much blood is exchanged. immune system can kill a little HIV. Maybe you can check the HIV community http://www.positivesingles.com... Report It |
