How do Hipaa regulations pertain to volunteer groups?

I am part of a volunteer group, we are all legal adults. One member suggested compiling a list of emergency contacts and pertinant medical info such as allergies, medications, and allergic reactions. Someone responded saying we might have a problem doing that because of hipaa regulations. In this type of situation how would hipaa apply to us? Would we better off to put our own information somewhere easily accessible to others?

Yes, I would agree with that...put the info where it's easily accessible, unfortunately this has been a problem since the hipaa laws were enacted
