Does HIPAA affect the patient's access to his or her medical records? |
Does HIPAA affect the patient's access to his or her medical records? no your medical records are yours. you should be able to have copies made and sign for your records to be sent to another doc. this is taken very seriously in the medical field as it should be. i worked in a busy ER and it was horrible how just talking around the wrong people let everyone within hearing distance know a persons health issues. this could be embarrasing for some people. i think Hippa is great and should have been done a long time ago. Hippa protects the pts medical records from prying people who think they should be made privy to the information without his/her permission. No...they are your records. You have every right to look at them. Don't let any one else tell you different. |
