For HIPAA can a provider charge another provider for medical records? |
For HIPAA can a provider charge another provider for medical records? I believe that a physician or hospital will sometimes bill a fee for photocopying medical records. (Similar to a "handling fee" that you are charged when ordering something by mail.) This fee will most often be passed down to the patient, either by the party who does the photocopying, or the party who had to pay to get the copies. no, the files are personal and the only way to get a hold of those records is to have a written letter of authorization from the patient. Without the patient's concent, no one including another provider can get the records. and a provider can not charge another provider for records. |
