I work for a company that is HIPPA compliant. If you get caught breaking that law you are in some serious trouble that is not just a state law thats a federal law now. ITs a criminal offese. You can be fined up to 50,000 dollars and imprisoned up to 1 year. If you are under what they call "false pretenses" you can be in the prison for up to 5 years and 100,000 dolars in fines, and if you really where trying to screw the system by doing it with malice or using the infor for personal gain the fine it up to a quarter million! And 10 years in prison or both. .
