If you are under 18 at a dr.'s office, can you by law with hipaa have confidentiality between u and the dr?

friend is going in tomorrow, she wants to be left alone with the doctor and have no information disclosed to her mom, is that possible by law or would the doctor be obligated to tell everything to the parent?

I believe that depends on the state she resides in. Some are privilege states(like Ohio for e.g), which have the privilege of maintaining patient record secrecy even if a court of law asks for it, and some are confidentiality states(like KY for e.g) , where the doctor is allowed to maintain secrecy until a time when the courts ask for details. By and large, her doctor will have to maintain confidentiality, whichever state she is in. Unless she is some real danger. Hope this helps.

No, She can have confidentiality.

It depends on the state. In NY it is illegal for the doctor to disclose your information to anyone without your permission.

It does depend on the State, and the doctor. Your friend should talk to the doctor and secure his agreement to keep her information to himself. If he will not agree, get another doctor.
