My HDL cholesterol is 27! HELP !?

The doctor at the hospital said it while I was checking out. He said to get a primary physician.I'm now a diabetic with hypertension.Overweight How serious is low HDL? How to treat it.

Low HDL increases your chance of heart disease. Since you have hypertension and diabetes, your low HDL further increases your chance of heart attack and stroke.

You need to exercise and lose weight. Exercise is one way to raise HDL. At least 4-5 hours of aerobic exercise per week is a must if you want to decrease your chance of heart diseases.

You will also need to be on at least 1 and possibly 3-4 cholesterol medication. Medicine that helps raise HDL include Tricor, Niaspan, and Omacor. Also, diabetic medication Actos can raise HDL.

You need to find a primary care doctor ASAP. If you don't, you might end up with heart attack as early as 10 years.
