Can I raise my HDL (good cholesterol) with canola oil?

I have been reading up on ways to help raise my HDL (good cholesterol) levels and they recommend using canola and olive oil in your cooking. I periodically like to deep fry, but I try to make this a rare thing because I know this is bad for me.

Would deep frying with canola oil be a healthier alternative? Does it actually make it better for me?

Yes, using canola oil is healthier.
Yes, healthier is always better for you.

From everything I have heard, yes, it is better for you. But there is also a school of thought that says that all fat is bad for you so deep frying might be not such a good idea. Supposedly garlic helps you, too.

I would steer clear of anything deep fried, i don't think even healthier oils will help in making it better for you. It's like adding a veggie to your meal of beer and nachos wouldn't be healthier for you.
