What can my husband do to lowere his triglcerides and raise his HDL?

He is 53 and had a stent put in last summer when some plaque broke and blocked his artery. He is now on 3 meds to lower his blood pressure (toprol xl ) is one. He is on plavix and aspirin and crestor. His recent blood work revealed the highest triglycerides ever (260) and the worst, lowest HDL ever. He has been exercising 4 times a week and is eating healthy. Could it be the meds he is on or something else?

Exercise 4 times a week is not a lot for a heart patient. Cardio exercise 6-7 days a week, building up to at least 45 minutes a session. But you also need to use a heart monitor to make sure it is neither to easy nor too hard. Also that he can handle the higher frequency. It took me a few months to get there after the bypass.

Look up foods that help raise HDL.

I eat lots of carbs, no sweets, no alcohol, very low fat diet, and my tryglicerides are in the 50's.

I had good luck with tricor to lower triglycerides.

For triglycerides, tell him to cut out simple carbohydrates like bread and sweets, beer and other liqour. They substantially raise triglycerides. To raise his HDL, exercise is the key.
