What is the implication or risk factors if the HDL - C (Good cholestrol) level lover than the normal range?

What type of food should I take for improving the good cholestrol level in the body. What is the fuction of HDL- C in human body?

Generally speaking, males with an HDL<40 and females with an HDL <50 are at an increased risk of a myocadial infarction (heart attack) vesus their peers.

The most effective way to improve HDL is with medications, typically statins, omega-3-fatty acids and if tolerable Niacin (large doses).

Another way to raise the HDL by about 10% is vigourous exercise.

Diet can help HDL but not as much as the prior two answers. But diets high in fish may help some.

HDL essentially helps protect the body from oxidative stress...which occurs after eating things like McDonalds.

HDL binds to the bad cholesterol, LDL and takes it to the liver. High levels of LDL can decrease the good HDL. The two should be in balance.
