Gynecomastia surgery?

Im a 14 year old male. I of course have gynecomastia (man boobs). I am still overweight (im 5'8 165 lbs.) but I have lost about 10 pounds and im still working on it. My man boobs are not proporsional to my body size. they stick out much more now either because im losing weight in my stomach area or theyre getting bigger =(. I need to know if this surgery will leave any scars or bad/serious side effects? I really need all the help I can get.

I work in Plastic Surgery and you will need surgery no side effects just lite scars. That is the only way you can get tid of this. You do need to be down in weight to get the best of the surgery, and most insurance companies will pay for this also.

I had this surgery and if you have a good doctor (which you probably will because they do hundreds or maybe thousands of these surgeries every year) then the scarring will not show up. They cut just below the nipple, sort of on the edge, and enter that way. My scars are gone and the surgery was a really good decision. Make sure to tell your doctor that you want a stich tied to the inside of your nipples to reduce the size. If you dont your nipples may become inverse.

I'm going to guess, here, that you haven't seen a doctor about this, yet, and are getting anxious about your appearance as you lose weight (and good for you on that front, by the way!!) because your appearance is important to you.

The best thing for you to do is consult your physycian, or a recommended surgeon combined with a weight-loss specialist so that you can get the whole picture on what sort of changes your body is going to go through with the weight loss, and what your options might be if surgery is the way to go when all is said and done.

Nobody should go into surgery lightly (and no, I am not a fan of cosmetic surgery unless it is fixing a defect or injury). It's expensive, and if elective (meaning you want it but it's not medically necessary) your insurance may not pay for it.

If your physique is still bothering you in the meantime, you could consider wrapping your upper torso with something like an ace bandage or similar elastic fabric, when you're out and about (but not all the time!!!) while your body is in transition. Did you know that women have done this wrapping thing for centuries to get into armed services (not recently - historically) or to "pass" as a man for social reasons?

Factoid aside, pursue your weight loss, and if you're concerned about physical changes talk to a professional. Surgery shouldn't be your first option - only a last resort.

Good luck!!

I assume you are not taking steroids. right?

If I were you and you were me, I would wait with the surgery, unless an endocrinologist already referred you to a surgeon.

This is most probably something called "physiologic gynecomastia". It is caused by your excess testosterone levels during your growth spurt, and although not pretty, it is completely normal, very common exactly in your age, and resolves in most cases by 17 to 20 years..

But shure the endocrinolgist should help with every question you have. You can ask him about treatment with a drug called Tamoxifen - it inhibits the action of estrogens that was shown to have some effects, unless you have had the problem for more than a year. If you don't want to wait you can elect for surgery but still it麓s the surgeon麓s job to inform you of all the risks.

Tell the surgeon that it is causing you significant pain, and you will be covered by insurance.

all the best! and stay away from the murder burgers. Cronic exposure to hormone laiden beef was found to cause epidemic gynecomastia in Italian Children.
