Periodontitis or gum disease and braces?

I think I have gum disease. I'm pretty sure. I'm not sure about periodontitis though. I need to get braces again since I have some gaps in my teeth, and last time I had braces I wasn't very good at wearing my retainer, etc, although I also felt like my teeth weren't as straight as they should've been. I think even then they might've shifted due to the gum disease and swollen gums? I'm not sure.

Does anyone know anything? I remember reading somewhere that periodontitis and gum disease needs to be treated first before getting braces because when your gums shrink you will have gaps in your teeth again?

Also, my gums bleed frequently. When I'm brushing, sometimes when I'm eating, and sometimes even in my sleep. I really neglected my teeth during my teens. I am due for a cleaning, should I make an appt. with a regular dentist or should I make an appt with a periodontist? Will my insurance cover my one yearly cleaning regardless of which of the two I see? thanks!!

HELLO,
IF YOU HAVE PERIODONTAL DISEASE, PERIODONTITIS, THE LAST THING YOU SHOULD BE CONCRNED WITH IS STRAIGHT TEETH THAT WILL EVENTUALLY FALL OUT DUE TO GUM DISEASE.
THE FACT IS THAT 75% OF THE AMERICAN ADULT PIOPULATION HAS PERIODONTAL DISEASE OF SOME STAGE.
THE PROFESSIONAL YOU SHOULD SEE IS A PERIODONTIST. A GUM SPECIALIST BEST QUALIFIED TO TREAT GUM DISEASE TO PREVENT LOSS OF TEETH.

yes they will have to get the gum disease under control 1st before the braces insurance should cover either one . call the number for customer service on the card for your plan to make sure good luck

Get your teeth scaled and cleaned, get on an antibiotic. THEN THINK ABOUT BRACES, your teeth will become loose due to gum disease, and braces will not be an option. You might need grafting and other procedures for all you know.
